**Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir -** Two Village Defence Guards (VDG) were brutally murdered by terrorists in the Kuntwara forest of Kishtwar district on Thursday, November 7th, 2024. The bodies of Nazir Ahmed (42) and Kuldeep Kumar (40) were found blindfolded and bound on Friday after a 12-hour search operation.

The victims, both unarmed and tending to their cattle, were shot in the head from behind with a pistol. Villagers are demanding increased security, adequate compensation for the families, and a government job for each of the deceased’s families.

“They (terrorists) want to create a wedge between our communities, but we want to tell them that we have lived together for centuries and will thwart their nefarious designs,” said Mohammad Farooq, former sarpanch of Ohli village where the victims resided.

The Kashmir Tigers, an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), claimed responsibility for the killings.

The incident has sparked fear and anger among the villagers who rely on the forest for their livelihood. The government has deployed additional security forces in the area and launched an operation to apprehend the perpetrators.

Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and General Officer Commanding of Jammu-based White Knight Corps Lt. General Navin Sachdeva visited the area on Friday to assess the security situation.

Former President of J&K BJP Ravinder Raina and the party’s Kishtwar MLA Shagun Parihar visited the village to express their condolences to the families.
