**Quetta, Pakistan** – A powerful bomb explosion ripped through Quetta’s railway station on Saturday, killing at least 21 people and injuring 46 others. The blast occurred as passengers gathered on the platform, awaiting the departure of the Jaffar Express to Peshawar.
Initial investigations point to a possible suicide bombing, according to Quetta Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Operations Muhammad Baloch. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The explosion, which reportedly originated near the booking office, caused significant damage to the platform’s roof and was heard throughout the city.
Rescue and law enforcement teams swiftly responded to the scene, securing the area and transporting the injured and deceased to Civil Hospital Quetta. An emergency was declared at the hospital, where additional medical staff was called in to manage the influx of casualties.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti condemned the attack, calling it a “horrific act targeting innocent civilians.” He vowed to pursue the perpetrators relentlessly, stating that terrorists are increasingly targeting civilians, laborers, women, and children.
The attack has raised concerns about the escalating violence in Balochistan, a province plagued by separatist movements and militant activity.
