Wed Oct 30 09:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Altoona Community Mourns Loss of Teen in Car Crash
Altoona, PA – The community of Altoona is in mourning after the tragic death of 17-year-old Lundyn Treese in a car crash early Sunday morning. Treese, a beloved student at Altoona Area High School and employee at TJ Maxx, was described by friends and colleagues as a kind, empathetic, and hardworking young woman.
“She was the sweetest person,” said Alexis Gallaher, Treese’s best friend. “There was no one she didn’t like.” Gallaher shared a touching story of Treese’s unwavering support, recalling how Treese comforted her during an illness, offering a childhood blanket and a gentle back rub.
Fellow TJ Maxx employees described Treese as a relentless hugger and apologizer. Emily Croft, a co-worker, said Treese would immediately hug anyone she saw having a bad day, often crying with empathy. “If she messed up, she would apologize a hundred times,” Croft said. “You would tell her to stop, and she would apologize for apologizing.”
Beyond her duties as a cashier, Treese was known for her willingness to help others, often going above and beyond. She would routinely restock displays, organize merchandise, and assist co-workers with tasks outside her job description. Treese was also an active member of the Altoona Area High School soccer team.
In recognition of Treese’s life, the school will host a memorial event for her during the team’s subregional playoff game this evening at Mansion Park. Attendees are encouraged to bring flowers, flameless candles, and other items to show their support. A candlelight vigil will also be held at Providence Presbyterian Church on Wednesday evening.
A GoFundMe account set up by Treese’s aunt has already surpassed its goal of $15,000, raising over $28,250 from over 565 donations.
The driver of the car, Jared Detwiler, is currently hospitalized and facing charges related to the crash. Despite this, Treese’s friends have expressed that she wouldn’t want anyone to hold a grudge against Detwiler.
The community of Altoona is united in grief and support for the Treese family during this difficult time.
