**KOLKATA, INDIA -** Spiritual speaker and singer Jaya Kishori has defended her ownership of a luxury Christian Dior handbag after facing criticism for apparent hypocrisy. A video showing her carrying the Rs 2 lakh bag went viral, prompting accusations of being out of touch with her message of spirituality.

In response, Kishori clarified that the bag was customized and made without leather, a material she has never used due to her personal beliefs. She emphasized that she never advocates for complete renunciation of material possessions and that earning money to lead a comfortable life is perfectly acceptable.

“I’m not a saint, sadhu, or sadhvi,” Kishori stated, “I am a normal girl, living a normal life with my family.” She explained that she works hard to provide for herself and her loved ones but adheres to her principles, including not using leather products.

Addressing claims that her ownership of a luxury item contradicts her spiritual message, Kishori asserted that possessing things doesn’t dictate one’s spiritual path. She clarified that her values revolve around the idea that possessions shouldn’t own you, and that true spirituality lies in knowing you can own things but not being consumed by them.

“I was happy when I had nothing, and I’m equally happy now that I can afford certain things,” Kishori said, adding that she has owned the bag for years and has even used it at airports.

Kishori ultimately attributed the controversy to negative publicity and reiterated her commitment to those who follow her. “I won’t break your trust,” she said. “I started this journey 22 years ago and I’m not stupid enough to let go of the hard work I’ve done.”
