**MUMBAI:** Former Maharashtra Minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique was shot at in Mumbai’s Bandra on Saturday evening, leaving him in critical condition. The incident occurred at the office of his son, Zeeshan Siddique, the MLA from Bandra East.
According to sources, three bullets were fired at Mr. Siddique, with at least one hitting him in the chest. He is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, where he is receiving continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.
Mr. Siddique, a former three-time MLA from Bandra West, had a long association with the Congress party, spanning 48 years, before joining the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP in February. His son, Zeeshan, was expelled from the Congress in August.
The incident took place on Dussehra, just months ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, scheduled for later this year. NCP Spokesperson Brijmohan Shrivastav expressed shock at the incident, stating that Mr. Siddique had not mentioned any threats from anyone.
Mr. Siddique, known for his political acumen and lavish parties, served as Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies, Labour, and FDA between 2004 and 2008. Notably, he played a role in resolving a long-standing cold war between Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan at an Iftaar party he hosted in 2013.
