**New Delhi, October 12, 2024:** India is celebrating Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, today, marking the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana and Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasur. This auspicious festival, which falls on the tenth day of the Ashwin or Kartik month, is celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country.
The name “Dussehra” is derived from the Sanskrit words “Dasha” (ten) and “Hara” (defeat), signifying the triumph of good over evil. In northern India, Ramleela performances bring to life the epic Ramayana, while in the south, Mysore Dasara features a grand procession led by decorated elephants.
This year, the festival coincides with a significant milestone in India’s infrastructure development. On Friday, October 11, the Navi Mumbai International Airport, slated to open in March 2025, witnessed its first aircraft landing. This trial run, conducted by the Indian Air Force, included the landing and takeoff of an Airbus C295 transport aircraft and a Sukhoi fighter jet, marking a key phase in the runway testing process.
