In April, an outbreak of the deadly diarrheal disease struck the Fulmalancha and Chatrakhali gram panchayats, affecting over 100 people.
Dhananjay Roy, a resident of Fulmalancha, witnessed the terrifying impact firsthand. His one-year-old son suffered from severe dehydration and required hospitalization. The entire family soon contracted the disease, underscoring the rapid and widespread nature of the outbreak.
The cause of the outbreak was traced to contaminated water sources. Tests conducted on tube wells revealed the presence of Vibrio cholerae, the bacterium responsible for the disease. The investigation also confirmed that pond water was likely contaminated, although it was not officially tested.
