Tue Oct 08 05:10:56 UTC 2024: ## Haryana Assembly Elections: BJP Wins, Initial Trends Showed Congress Dominance

**Chandigarh:** In a dramatic turn of events, the BJP has secured a majority in the Haryana Assembly elections, winning over 90 seats. Initial trends had shown a clear lead for the Congress, with the party initially winning 65 seats by 8 am. However, the BJP gained momentum by 9:30 am, bringing the difference down to two seats.

By 9:44 am, the two parties were neck-and-neck at 43 seats each. The BJP eventually surged ahead, reaching 46 seats, securing a comfortable majority.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is leading in the Ladwa seat, while Savitri Jindal is ahead in the Hisar seat. Congress leader, Vinesh Phogat, is trailing in the Julana seat.

The state witnessed a voter turnout of 67.90% in the elections held on 5th October, marginally lower than the previous elections.

Despite exit polls by 13 agencies, including Bhaskar, predicting a Congress win with 50-55 seats, the final results showed a completely different picture.

It is noteworthy that in the last five Assembly elections in Haryana (2000-2019), a decrease or marginal increase in voter turnout (less than 1%) has resulted in hung assemblies. This trend has historically benefited the incumbent party.
