**MEMPHIS, TN** – Scotty Pippen Jr., son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen, is poised for a larger role with the Memphis Grizzlies this season. While currently on a two-way contract, Pippen has shown he can be a reliable point guard and is hoping to secure a regular roster spot.
Following the departure of veteran Derrick Rose, a clear path has opened for Pippen to become the primary backup to star guard Ja Morant. Pippen has impressed Grizzlies’ management with his consistency and ability to step up when needed, particularly during last season’s injury-ridden stretch.
His performance in the 2024 Las Vegas Summer League, where he averaged 21.5 points, 8.7 assists, and 3.3 steals, further solidified his potential. While general manager Zach Kleiman has yet to make a decision on Pippen’s contract, the young guard is ready to earn his spot.
“I’ve been talking with Zach and Coach Taylor a lot, and they’ve been pretty transparent with me about the steps in the future,” said Pippen. “There’s definitely a path for me to get that roster spot…I feel like I have something to play for or be excited about this year.”
Kleiman praised Pippen’s work ethic and fit within the team’s culture. “Scotty has shown a lot. He’s tough-minded, he sets the tone defensively, unselfish, gritty player,” Kleiman said. “We’ll see where things shake out regarding who’s in what role as we kick the season off. But Scotty is someone we have real confidence in playing a role with.”
Pippen remains focused on showcasing his abilities and proving himself as a viable backup for Morant. With his dedication and talent, Pippen looks to be a key piece for the Grizzlies’ success in the upcoming season.
