Sun Oct 06 00:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Slug Season is Here: How to Keep the Gastropods Out of Your Home

With the cooler weather and increased rainfall, slug season is upon us, and unfortunately for UK residents, the country is known as the “Slug Capital of the World.” Experts estimate there are around 200 slugs per cubic meter of soil, and while they lay eggs year-round, they’re most active in spring and autumn.

To keep these pesky creatures out of your home, Online Carpets has compiled a list of natural slug-deterring methods:

**Seal Up Entry Points:** Slugs are boneless and can squeeze through tiny gaps. Check window and door frames for cracks, and seal them with appropriate sealant.

**Address Dampness:** Slugs love moisture, so eliminate any damp spots, leaky pipes, or condensation build-up. Older homes are more prone to slug invasions due to their construction, so consider damp traps or dehumidifiers.

**Copper is a Slug’s Kryptonite:** Slugs use copper-based proteins to transport oxygen. Copper tape placed near entryways can deter them, but needs regular cleaning with vinegar to maintain effectiveness.

**Fragrant Defense:** Lavender and rosemary are natural slug repellents. Place them strategically around entry points or make a spray with lavender oil and apply it indoors and outdoors.

**Coffee Grounds for the Win:** Slugs hate coffee grounds. Sprinkle ground coffee beans (not instant) at entryways to create a barrier. If you don’t buy coffee beans, ask your local coffee shop for free grounds.

By taking these simple steps, you can help keep slugs out of your home and enjoy a pest-free autumn.
