Sat Sep 21 02:51:06 UTC 2024: ## Amul Denies Supplying Ghee to Tirupati Temple Amidst Adulteration Controversy
Amidst growing controversy over the alleged adulteration of ghee in Tirupati laddus, India’s leading dairy brand Amul has issued a strong denial, stating that it has never supplied ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD).
The statement, released on X (formerly Twitter), addresses social media claims that Amul ghee was being used in the temple’s famous laddus. Amul emphasizes that its ghee is produced from pure milk in state-of-the-art, ISO certified facilities, undergoing stringent quality checks including adulteration detection as per FSSAI norms.
The dairy brand further condemns the misinformation campaign against it, highlighting Amul ghee’s longstanding trust and popularity in Indian households for over 50 years.
This clarification comes after recent allegations by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) that lab reports revealed the presence of “beef tallow, fish oil, and lard” in Tirupati laddus, sparking outrage among devotees. The TDP claimed that TTD had switched its ghee supplier from Nandini to Amul in recent years. The lab report, dated July 16, was conducted by a Gujarat-based livestock laboratory, and mentions the presence of “lard which is related to pig fat” in the laddu samples.
Amul’s denial and emphasis on its stringent quality control measures aim to quell public concerns and dispel misinformation surrounding the alleged adulteration scandal.
