Fri Sep 20 08:00:54 UTC 2024: ## Taiwan Denies Involvement in Exploding Pagers Used by Hezbollah

**TAIPEI, TAIWAN** – Amidst allegations that Taiwanese companies supplied explosive pagers to Hezbollah in Lebanon, Taiwanese authorities have denied any involvement, questioning two individuals connected to the alleged manufacturers as part of their investigation.

Following the explosion of hundreds of pagers and walkie-talkies in Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday, which killed at least 37 people and injured nearly 3,000, suspicions arose about the source of the devices. The New York Times reported that Israel had placed explosives in a shipment of pagers from Taiwanese company Gold Apollo, citing anonymous officials.

Gold Apollo, however, denied producing the devices, blaming their Hungarian partner BAC Consulting KFT for using their trademark. A representative connected to BAC Consulting KFT, Wu Yu-jen, who established a Taipei-based company called “Apollo Systems”, was questioned alongside a Gold Apollo representative.

Taiwanese authorities conducted searches at Gold Apollo’s facilities and Apollo Systems’ office, stressing their commitment to uncovering the truth. Economic Minister Kuo Jyh-huei stated that Gold Apollo’s pagers, made with low-end components, could not possibly explode, emphasizing that they had never faced such incidents in their two years of exporting 260,000 pagers.

Premier Cho Jung-tai also assured that Taiwan did not directly export pagers to Lebanon.

While Hungary confirmed BAC Consulting KFT’s role as a trading intermediary, they denied any manufacturing or operational facilities within their country.

The investigation is ongoing as Taiwanese authorities seek to clarify the involvement of local companies and determine the origin of the explosive devices.
