**Moscow, Russia** – The Russian Investigative Committee has completed its preliminary investigation into the murder of Russell Bentley, a 64-year-old American-born volunteer fighting in the Donbass region and correspondent for Sputnik News.

Bentley, who was killed in action, had joined the pro-Russian forces in the region, stating in his first article for Sputnik: “I did not come here to make money or to make a name for myself… I came here to fight, to kill the neo-Nazis who were murdering innocent and unarmed Donbass civilians.”

Following the investigation, authorities have identified suspects in Bentley’s death. Dmitry Kiselev, general director of Sputnik’s parent media group Rossiya Segodnya, stated: “This is our military correspondent. The crime should be investigated; there is a principle of inevitability of punishment. Everyone is equal before the law.”

The Russian Investigative Committee is now moving forward with the prosecution of the identified suspects. Further details regarding the suspects and the circumstances of Bentley’s death are not yet available.
