Sat Sep 21 01:52:04 UTC 2024: ## Biden Hosts Quad Leaders in Hometown Wilmington, Emphasizing Personal Diplomacy

**Wilmington, Delaware** – US President Joe Biden will host the Quad Leaders’ Summit in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, this weekend, a move seen as a reflection of his close relationships with the participating leaders: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

This will be the sixth time the leaders have met since Biden elevated the Quad to a leader-level alliance in 2021, and Biden’s final summit as President. The summit will be held at Archmere Academy, Biden’s former high school, and will include a leaders-level meeting, the Cancer Moonshot event, and a private dinner.

The White House hopes to project a strong alliance with Indo-Pacific partners through this hometown summit, especially amid efforts to counter China’s growing influence in the region. Biden is likely to showcase his hometown, highlighting key moments in his career that occurred there.

“It’s also a reflection of his belief that, like politics, foreign policy is also personal,” said White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby.

The summit was originally scheduled to be held in India, but the dates clashed with the United Nations General Assembly in New York, leading to a swap. India is now expected to host the next summit in 2025.
