**Lindenhurst, NY** – Ryszard Murawski, 44, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for fatally stabbing his wife, Wioleta Murawski, 38, outside their home in Lindenhurst on January 3, 2024. The gruesome attack was witnessed by the couple’s 15-year-old son, who was returning home from a friend’s house.
According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the son heard his mother’s screams for help and rushed to the backyard, where he saw his father stabbing his mother with a large, serrated knife. The brave teenager intervened, allowing his mother to escape, and the distraught teen called 911 for help while desperately trying to save her life.
Wioleta Murawski managed to stumble across the street before collapsing, with her son by her side. Despite the son’s efforts and emergency medical treatment, she was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Ryszard Murawski fled the scene in his pickup truck but was apprehended after a high-speed chase by police. The brutal attack was captured on the family’s home surveillance system.
Family and friends remembered Wioleta Murawski as an outgoing and caring person, a devoted mother, sister, friend, and colleague.
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney condemned the murder as a tragic case of domestic violence. He emphasized that domestic violence is never acceptable and urged anyone experiencing abuse to reach out for help.
Murawski, who had been issued an order of protection by his wife a week prior to the murder, is expected to be sentenced to 22 years to life in prison. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 17, 2024.
