Fri Sep 20 08:02:06 UTC 2024: ## H.G. Infra Engineering Penalized ₹1 Crore by NHAI for Expressway Project Deficiencies
**New Delhi, September 20, 2024:** H.G. Infra Engineering Limited (HGIEL) has been slapped with a ₹1 crore penalty by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for deficiencies in two expressway projects in Rajasthan. The penalties, totaling ₹50 lakh each for the projects, were levied due to issues related to riding qualities and untimely settlement, according to NHAI. Both projects are part of the Delhi-Vadodara Greenfield Expressway under the Bharatmala Pariyojana.
HGIEL received the penalty letters dated September 13 and 17, 2024, on September 19, 2024. Despite the penalty, the company’s shares were trading at ₹1,557.75, up by 2.13% on the NSE at noon today.
HGIEL maintains that the penalties are unwarranted and plans to challenge them in court. The company attributes the deficiencies to unprecedented heavy rainfall in the project area, citing it as a force majeure event. HGIEL assures that the penalties will have no significant impact on its financial operations or other activities.
