**Chennai, India:** Jasprit Bumrah achieved a significant milestone in India’s first Test against Bangladesh, becoming the sixth Indian pacer to reach 400 international wickets across formats. His impressive performance on the second day of the match also played a crucial role in India securing a commanding lead.

Bumrah, who took 4/50 in Bangladesh’s first innings, achieved this milestone in just 227 innings, making him the third fastest Indian seamer to achieve this feat after legends Kapil Dev and Mohammed Shami. The 30-year-old pacer, known for his fierce pace and deadly yorkers, showcased his dominance with his victims including Shadman Islam, Mushfiqur Rahim, Hasan Mahmud, and Taskin Ahmed.

With 401 wickets in 196 international matches, Bumrah boasts an impressive average of 21.01 with best figures of 6/19. His performance in Test cricket is particularly noteworthy, where he has claimed 163 wickets at an average of 20.49 with a best haul of 6/27. He has also achieved 10 five-wicket hauls in the longest format of the game.

Bumrah’s achievement comes as India enjoys a dominant position in the match. Bangladesh were bowled out for a paltry 149 in their first innings, giving India a massive first-innings lead of 227 runs. In reply, India reached 81/3 at the stumps, extending their overall lead to 308 runs. Shubman Gill (33*) and Rishabh Pant (12*) were the unbeaten batsmen at the close of play.

While Bumrah’s performance has been the highlight of the match, Ravichandran Ashwin also showcased his brilliance, ending his innings on 113 runs after resuming the day on 102. Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with a valuable 86 runs.
