Fri Sep 20 08:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Parents of Teenager Linked to Suicide Kit Seller Sue Hospital, Doctors and Man Facing Murder Charges
**Aurora, ON** – The parents of Jeshennia Bedoya Lopez, an 18-year-old who died by suicide in September 2022, have filed a $2 million lawsuit against a Newmarket hospital, seven doctors, and Kenneth Law, a Toronto man facing criminal charges for murder and abetting suicide in connection with 14 deaths across Ontario.
Jeshennia’s parents allege Law sold her a suicide kit through an online storefront, containing a poisonous chemical she later ingested during a mental health crisis. The lawsuit also claims that Jeshennia’s family physician and several specialists failed to provide adequate care after she reported suicidal thoughts in 2020 and 2022.
The lawsuit comes two years to the day after Jeshennia’s death and is the first known civil case against Law. Police have charged Law with 14 counts of first-degree murder and 14 counts of counselling or aiding suicide in connection with deaths in several Ontario cities.
“We’ve always been a very close family,” said Jeshennia’s father, Leonardo Bedoya. “Her loss has hit us very hard.”
Jeshennia’s mother, Maria Lopez, who wears a necklace with a photo of her daughter, said, “We’re not going to be able to recover, because we’re not going to be able to bring her back.”
The hospital and Law’s lawyer declined to comment on the allegations, which have not been proven in court. Law has denied wrongdoing.
The case highlights the growing issue of online suicide kits and the challenges of holding individuals accountable for deaths linked to their sale.
