**HYDERABAD, INDIA -** Choreographer Shaik Jani Basha, better known as Jani Master, was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days on Friday after being arrested in Goa by the Cyberabad police. He was brought to Hyderabad earlier in the day and produced before the Upparpally court.
The arrest stems from allegations of sexual assault by a 21-year-old woman, who claims the abuse began when she was a minor. The case has sparked widespread debate about the safety of women in the film industry and workplaces in general.
The Cyberabad police are expected to apply for his custody in the coming days to continue their investigation. “The case is strong, and chances of bail are very slim,” a senior official said. “Questioning will be done regarding the allegations levelled against him.”
Jani Master, who is a prominent figure in Telugu cinema, has been lodged in the Chanchalguda Central Jail of Hyderabad.
The Telangana Women’s Commission and Movie Artists Association (MAA) have both voiced support for the victim and the ongoing investigation.
