Thu Sep 19 07:11:32 UTC 2024: ## FIA Cracks Down on Foul Language in F1 Broadcasts

The FIA, Formula 1’s governing body, has requested that Formula One Management minimize the amount of foul language broadcast on television productions. While swear words are currently bleeped out, the growing frequency of these outbursts has become a concern for the FIA.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem expressed his desire to change the tone of content aired to fans, highlighting that drivers have a responsibility to be mindful of their language. He emphasized that F1 is not rap music and that the use of profanity should be minimized.

Ben Sulayem acknowledged the frustrations drivers face during races but stressed the importance of maintaining appropriate conduct. He pointed out that with the prevalence of live broadcasting, everything is recorded and that the FIA is taking steps to limit the broadcast of foul language, even on team radio.

This move follows the FIA’s recent revisions to the International Sporting Code regarding the definition of ‘misconduct’, aiming to combat online abuse towards officials.

Ben Sulayem also addressed the recent controversy surrounding the FIA’s ban on political, religious, and personal statements in Formula 1. He clarified that this rule, which has been in place since 1972, is designed to promote neutrality and respect for the host countries.

The FIA President stressed that the organization is committed to supporting drivers, promoters, and the sport itself, while upholding ethical standards and ensuring fairness and balance.
