**PHOENIX, AZ** – The Connecticut Sun continued their impressive run on Friday night, defeating the Phoenix Mercury 88-69. Brionna Jones led the Sun’s charge with a dominant performance, scoring 20 points on 10-of-16 shooting and grabbing nine rebounds. Marina Mabrey chipped in with 19 points.
The Sun established control early, leading throughout the game after Tyasha Harris’s three-pointer gave them an 11-8 lead in the first quarter. Connecticut’s lead grew to 22-17 after the first and 46-38 at halftime.
The third quarter was a decisive turning point. The Sun outscored Phoenix 24-6, fueled by a 22-0 run. Phoenix struggled mightily from the field, shooting a dismal 3-of-20, including 0-for-10 from three-point range. This tied for their lowest scoring quarter of the season.
Despite Brittney Griner’s valiant effort for the Mercury with 26 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three blocks, the Sun proved too strong. The Mercury, who are struggling with six losses in their last seven games, continue to fight for a playoff spot.
With the victory, the Sun maintained their position a game behind the Minnesota Lynx for second place in the WNBA standings. They remain four games back of the first-place New York Liberty.
