Fri Sep 13 16:35:57 UTC 2024: ## Telangana Seeks Central Support for Trillion-Dollar Economy Vision

Hyderabad, India – Telangana’s IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu has appealed to the central government for support in realizing the state’s ambitious vision of becoming a trillion-dollar economy within the next decade. During a National Commerce Council meeting in Mumbai on Friday, Minister Babu presented the state’s strategic plans and targets to Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal.

Minister Babu highlighted the state’s potential in several sectors, including textiles, plastics, polymers, and medical equipment, and emphasized the need for central support to drive rapid growth and create more employment opportunities. He also advocated for central assistance in establishing key infrastructure projects:

* A turmeric processing unit in Nizamabad to boost exports and enhance farmer incomes.
* A rapid chilli-drying plant in Khammam or Mahbubabad to promote exports.
* A spice testing lab in Nizamabad or Warangal to ensure quality standards and facilitate customs clearance.
* An irradiation plant to increase the shelf life of fruits and vegetables and reduce food waste.

Furthermore, Minister Babu urged the central government to support the export of gems, gold jewellery, toys, furniture, and handicrafts from Telangana. He expressed concerns that existing central schemes like the Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES) have not significantly benefited states due to inadequate funding.

The meeting, which focused on trade policies, business development, and economic changes, was attended by commerce ministers from several states. Minister Babu’s appeal for central support signifies Telangana’s determination to achieve its ambitious economic goals and its reliance on collaboration with the central government to achieve them.
