Sat Sep 14 04:55:51 UTC 2024: ## Landslide Cuts Off Chandigarh-Manali Highway, Stranding Tourists

**Manali, Himachal Pradesh:** A massive landslide early Saturday morning has blocked the Chandigarh-Manali Highway, stranding tourists and halting vehicular movement. The road is closed near the 9 Mile marker, with debris creating a swamp-like situation. A Thar vehicle became stuck in the debris, but fortunately, there were no injuries.

The continuous rain is hindering efforts to clear the debris, and it is unclear when the highway will reopen. Officials are working to clear the road, but the process is expected to take time.

This incident is part of a broader pattern of road closures across Himachal Pradesh. A total of 31 roads were closed across the state on Friday evening due to heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Office in Shimla has issued a moderate flash flood warning for parts of Shimla and Sirmaur districts until Saturday.

Despite the disruption, Tabo in Lahaul and Spiti remains the coldest spot in the state with a low of 8.1 degrees Celsius, while Una boasts the warmest temperature at 33.2 degrees Celsius.

The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) has reported road closures in various districts, including 10 roads in Kangra, 7 in Mandi, 5 in Sirmaur, 4 in Shimla, 3 in Kullu, and one each in Kinnaur and Bilaspur.

Tourists and commuters are advised to check for updates on road conditions before travelling.
