Sat Sep 14 04:15:48 UTC 2024: ## Rockies Rally Past Cubs Thanks to Goodman’s Grand Slam

**DENVER (AP)** – Hunter Goodman, a rookie sensation for the Colorado Rockies, delivered a game-winning grand slam in the eighth inning, leading the Rockies to a 9-5 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday night.

Goodman finished the night with three hits and a career-high seven RBIs, marking the first seven-RBI game for a Rockies player since Elías Díaz achieved the feat in September 2022.

“They’re wanting to make a statement, letting us know that they’re major league players, and a night like this from Goodie helps his cause,” said Rockies manager Bud Black. “He has power. He showed up in the minor leagues and he has 11 (homers) here and 150 or so at-bats. He’s doing his thing. So, you know, good for Hunter.”

The Cubs had tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the eighth thanks to a three-run homer from Michael Busch. However, the Rockies responded in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases before Goodman’s heroic swing.

“There was some frustration after that (top of the eighth) inning because they put some good swings on pitches and we ended up giving up the lead,” Goodman explained. “But everybody rallied together. We had a great offensive night, not just from me. We had a lot of big hits from some of the other guys right there in order for me to hit the grand slam. It was just a great night overall.”

The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for the Rockies against the Cubs, while the loss further hampered Chicago’s playoff hopes, putting them six games behind the Mets for the third NL wild card spot.

The Rockies will look to continue their momentum on Saturday as Kyle Freeland faces Jameson Taillon for the Cubs.
