**Boston, MA** – Boston is experiencing its longest dry spell in decades, with 21 consecutive days without measurable rainfall, according to WBZ meteorologist Terry Eliasen. The city last experienced a similar dry streak in 1999, when it went 37 days without rain.
This ongoing drought is expected to continue, with the National Weather Service forecasting “essentially no rain chances” for southern New England over the next seven days. Eliasen further predicts that the Northeast will remain rain-free for at least another 10 days.
While only one area in northeast Massachusetts is currently classified as experiencing a mild drought, Eliasen warns that the lack of rain in recent weeks could lead to changes in the drought monitor report, due out Thursday.
Despite the current dry spell, Boston remains well above average for rainfall this year. However, three weeks without rain is starting to impact the region, prompting concerns about potential drought conditions in the coming weeks.
