Tue Sep 10 16:59:27 UTC 2024: ## GAA to Test New Rules in Croke Park Exhibition Games

**Dublin, Ireland** – The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) is set to host two days of experimental football games at Croke Park this October, aiming to showcase proposed rule changes designed to enhance the sport’s entertainment value.

The games, scheduled for October 18th and 19th, will feature an inter-provincial competition featuring players whose club seasons have concluded. The new rules, which are currently being finalized by the Football Review Committee (FRC), will be trialled in the 2025 League and Championship pending approval at Special Congress in November.

The two-day event will include two semi-finals and two subsequent matches between the winners and losers. Both days will be open to the public, and the games are expected to attract a sizable crowd due to the widespread interest in the proposed changes.

FRC chairman Jim Gavin expressed hope that the games would be televised live, potentially by TG4, which has expressed interest in broadcasting the event. Schedules could limit television coverage to only the two Saturday matches – the final and the “shield” final between the two semi-final losers.

Gavin outlined the seven “core enhancements” being considered, including a revised scoring system and a rule allowing three outfield players from each team to remain inside the 65-meter line when the ball is in the other half of the pitch.

These exhibition games provide a crucial opportunity for the GAA to gather feedback on the proposed rule changes before their potential implementation in 2025. The public and the GAA community will be closely watching as these new rules are put to the test in Croke Park.
