Mon Sep 09 16:10:04 UTC 2024: ## UK Stocks Surge on Monday, Led by Chemicals and Travel Sectors

London, UK – The Investing.com United Kingdom 100 index closed 1.05% higher on Monday, buoyed by strong performance in the Chemicals, Travel & Leisure, and Support Services sectors.

Entain PLC, Melrose Industries PLC, and Flutter Entertainment PLC were the top performers, gaining 5.29%, 4.15%, and 3.84% respectively.

Burberry Group PLC saw the biggest decline, falling 4.86% and reaching a 5-year low. Pearson PLC and Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC also saw losses, dropping 1.40% and 1.15% respectively.

The London Stock Exchange saw 1083 stocks rise, 686 decline, and 704 remain unchanged.

Meanwhile, gold futures for December delivery increased by 0.20%, reaching $2,529.75 per troy ounce. Crude oil futures for October delivery climbed 1.15%, hitting $68.45 a barrel, while Brent oil futures for November delivery rose 0.77%, trading at $71.61 a barrel.

The GBP/USD exchange rate remained unchanged at 1.31, while the EUR/GBP exchange rate stayed steady at 0.84. The US Dollar Index Futures closed 0.38% higher at 101.53.
