**New Delhi, India:** The Indian government has delivered food assistance to Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Malawi, according to a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal.
India shipped 1000 metric tons (MT) of rice to Zimbabwe to address the country’s food security needs. Zambia received 1300 MT of maize to combat food and nutritional shortages. Malawi, which is facing a severe drought caused by the El Nino phenomenon, received 1000 MT of rice in humanitarian aid.
The MEA highlighted India’s commitment to assisting these nations, emphasizing its dedication to strengthening international partnerships and offering support during times of need.
The El Nino weather pattern, which has been linked to heavy rains and flooding in various parts of the world, has been identified as a contributing factor to the drought in Malawi. Tanzania has also experienced significant damage due to the El Nino-related extreme weather, leading to widespread flooding and landslides.
These food shipments reflect India’s proactive approach to addressing global challenges, particularly those related to food security and climate change. The country continues to play a crucial role in humanitarian relief efforts across the globe, reinforcing its position as a responsible and compassionate member of the international community.
