Sun Sep 08 12:17:07 UTC 2024: ## Indian Para-Athlete Navdeep Singh Wins Gold in Dramatic Javelin Throw at Paris Paralympics

**Paris, France:** In a thrilling turn of events, Indian para-athlete Navdeep Singh secured India’s first-ever gold medal in the men’s javelin F41 category at the Paris Paralympics. Initially awarded silver after a personal best throw of 47.32m, Singh was upgraded to gold after the initial winner, Iranian Sadegh Beit Sayah, was disqualified for displaying an objectionable flag.

Sayah had set a new Paralympic record of 47.64m in his penultimate throw but was disqualified for violating the International Paralympic Committee rules against political gestures. This gave Singh the top spot, while China’s Sun Pengxiang took silver with a throw of 44.72m.

The 23-year-old from Haryana, who competes in the classification for athletes of short stature, faced challenges from a young age but refused to let his condition define him. Inspired by his father, a national-level wrestler, Navdeep channeled his passion into athletics, overcoming societal expectations and physical limitations.

After a successful international career that included gold medals at the Asian Youth Para Games and the 2021 Fazza International Championship, Navdeep faced setbacks at the Tokyo Paralympics and the Asian Para Games in 2022. However, he bounced back to win bronze at the World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan earlier this year.

This gold medal is a testament to Navdeep’s resilience, determination, and commitment to his sport, showcasing his remarkable journey from adversity to international podium.
