Tue Sep 03 13:07:18 UTC 2024: – Former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, has been sent to 8-day CBI custody in connection with alleged financial misconduct at the hospital.
– Three others, Biplav Singha, Suman Hazra, and Afsar Ali Khan, were also arrested in the case and sent to CBI custody for eight days.
– Dr. Ghosh resigned as principal following a trainee doctor being raped and murdered on the hospital premises, sparking nationwide protests.
– Afsar Ali Khan, a bodyguard of Ghosh, was seen threatening a former principal in a video and has been accused of involvement in selling biomedical waste from the hospital.
– The CBI has charged the accused under various sections related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, and dishonesty, as well as invoking the Prevention of Corruption Act.
– The Indian Medical Association has suspended Dr. Sandip Ghosh’s membership in light of the rape-murder case at the hospital.
