Mon Dec 15 00:50:00 UTC 2025: NFL Draft Buzz: Yates Projects Potential Top Picks, Including Mendoza and Moore
As the 2025 NFL season winds down, attention is already turning to the 2026 NFL Draft. ESPN’s Field Yates has released his initial mock draft, projecting the first-round picks based on current team needs and prospect performance. A key component of the mock draft is projecting trades which have been based on team needs.
Two quarterbacks are generating significant early buzz: Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza and Oregon’s Dante Moore. Mendoza, known for his accuracy, arm strength, and improved pocket presence, is projected to be selected by the New York Jets, who are looking for a long-term solution at quarterback. In order to trade up, the Jets would send both of their first-round picks (Nos. 7 and 18) and a Day 2 pick to the Giants for the top selection. Moore, boasting high-level downfield accuracy and the ability to improvise, is projected to be drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders, who are looking for an upgrade at the quarterback position.
The mock draft also highlights other top prospects, including Ohio State edge rusher Arvell Reese, who could be the best overall prospect in the class, and Clemson cornerback Avieon Terrell, younger brother of star cornerback A.J. Terrell Jr. The Giants traded down from No. 1 to select a cornerback.
Yates cautions that this mock draft is preliminary, as much can change before the actual draft on April 23, 2026. However, it provides an early glimpse into the potential future of the NFL.
