Sat Dec 06 00:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Harrisonburg Man Killed in Scooter-Vehicle Collision

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – A 51-year-old Greenville man died Wednesday night after a crash involving an electric foot scooter and a vehicle in Harrisonburg.

The Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) is investigating the fatal collision, which occurred just after 8 p.m. near the intersection of 4th Street and Stuart Street. According to an HPD release, officers arrived to find the scooter driver, identified as John Berrett, unresponsive in the street.

Emergency Medical Services attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but Berrett was pronounced dead at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Berrett was traveling east on 4th Street when he allegedly disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Stuart Street. He then collided with a vehicle traveling north on Stuart Street. The driver of the vehicle immediately stopped and called 911.

HPD’s Accident Reconstruction Team and patrol officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. They are gathering additional information from witnesses and examining the scene.

As of Thursday morning, no charges have been filed. The investigation remains ongoing.
