KOCHI, December 6, 2025 – Ernakulam district is ready for local body elections scheduled for December 9th. District Collector G. Priyanka announced that all preparations are in place, urging voters to exercise their right to vote.
Polling will occur at 3,021 polling stations across 2,220 wards. A total of 7,347 candidates are contesting, comprising 3,917 women and 3,457 men. The electorate consists of 2,667,746 voters, including 1,388,544 women, 1,279,170 men, and 32 transgender individuals.
Authorities have commissioned 7,490 ballot units and 3,036 control units. An additional 1,551 ballot units and 685 control units are held in reserve. Over 14,544 employees will be deployed at polling stations, with another 10,000 supporting the election process. Twenty-eight centers will be established for distribution, collection, and vote counting, primarily located in schools.
Police have identified 72 polling booths as sensitive, where webcasting will be conducted. Approximately 1,200 vehicles have been arranged for election-related activities.
Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on December 9th, with mock polling commencing at 6 a.m. Public campaigning must cease by 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 7th.
Security measures are heightened, with 3,125 police personnel deployed within Ernakulam rural limits, supplemented by 600 special police officers. There are 2,206 polling booths within the rural limits. Route marches were conducted in all five divisions to ensure security. Special patrol teams and plainclothes officers will also be on duty.
