Fri Dec 05 01:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Momoa’s Lobo Gets His Axe: First Look at DCU’s Bounty Hunter Revealed for ‘Supergirl’
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – DC Studios has unveiled the first official artwork connecting Jason Momoa to his role as Lobo in the upcoming ‘Supergirl’ movie, slated for release on June 26, 2026. The reveal took place at the CCXP convention in Brazil, offering fans a glimpse into the future of the DC Universe.
Momoa, previously known as Aquaman in the now-defunct DCEU, will be trading in his trident for a hooked axe as he takes on the mantle of the intergalactic bounty hunter, Lobo. He’s set to face off against Milly Alcock’s Supergirl in the second film of the revamped DCU.
The revealed artwork showcases Lobo’s signature weapon: a large, curved axe with a dangling chain, staying relatively faithful to the character’s comic book design. This confirms that Momoa’s portrayal will embrace the iconic weapon central to Lobo’s bounty-hunting adventures.
This reveal coincides with the unveiling of Supergirl’s costume for the film, hinting at a potential trailer debut in the lead-up to the 2025 convention season.
While Lobo is not expected to be the main antagonist, he is poised to play a key role in Supergirl’s journey. The primary villain is rumored to be Krem of the Yellow Hills, portrayed by Matthias Schoenaerts, mirroring his role in the ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ comic book series that loosely inspires the film.
Interestingly, Lobo was not originally part of the ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ comic. Writer Tom King revealed in a past interview that the comic was initially pitched as a Lobo/Supergirl story but was ultimately reworked to focus solely on Supergirl. It now appears DC Studios may be revisiting that original concept.
Given Lobo’s profession as a space-faring bounty hunter and Supergirl’s quest for vengeance across the stars, their paths are likely to intersect. How Lobo factors into her search for answers remains to be seen, but his inclusion promises an exciting and unexpected dynamic in the ‘Supergirl’ movie, directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira.
