Scarlett Johansson Stands By Woody Allen Amid Renewed Scrutiny

LOS ANGELES, CA – Actress Scarlett Johansson has reiterated her unwavering support for director Woody Allen, who continues to face allegations of sexual abuse made by his stepdaughter Dylan Farrow. In a recent interview with The Daily Telegraph, Johansson acknowledged the potential repercussions of her stance but maintained her belief in Allen’s innocence.

Johansson, who starred in three of Allen’s films, including “Match Point,” “Scoop,” and “Vicky Christina Barcelona,” has been a vocal supporter of the director even amidst the controversy that has largely alienated him from the film industry. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in 2019, she stated, “I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work him anytime.”

When asked about potential backlash resulting from her support, Johansson admitted uncertainty. “You never know what the domino effect is, exactly,” she said, adding that her mother instilled in her the importance of integrity and standing up for one’s beliefs.

She also expressed disappointment that other actors hadn’t publicly supported her. She was talking about the the objection she raised over ChatGPT launching a voice that she argued sounded “eerily similar” to hers, and suing Disney in 2021 over its decision to give “Black Widow” a streaming-only release. “I mean, it would be great to have more support from the community and my peers — vocally, publicly — on certain issues that affect the entire industry,” she said.
