MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Nicole Staples, a 44-year-old former teacher at Cottage Hill Christian Academy, was arrested Wednesday on charges of willful abuse of a child under 18 after a disturbing video went viral showing her allegedly striking a child multiple times with a belt.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, depicts a woman, identified as Staples, yelling at and hitting a young boy as he cries. The footage also appears to show her throwing the child to the ground by his hair.
