KOCHI, India – November 21, 2025 – Researchers at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) in Kochi have announced the discovery of a new species of deep-sea squid in the Arabian Sea. The species, named Taningia silasii (Indian octopus squid) in honor of the late marine biologist E. G. Silas, former Director of CMFRI, was found at a depth of approximately 390 meters off the Kollam coast.
