Fri Nov 21 13:30:43 UTC 2025: Trump Accuses Democratic Congress Members of “Seditious Behavior” After Warning Military Against “Illegal Orders”
Washington D.C. – Former President Donald Trump has accused six Democratic members of Congress of “seditious behavior” after they released a video urging members of the military and intelligence communities to refuse to follow “illegal orders.” The Democrats, all veterans of the military or intelligence services, posted the video on social media, citing concerns that the Trump administration is pitting the military against American citizens and that threats to the Constitution are coming from within the country.
In response, Trump took to his Truth Social platform, calling the lawmakers “traitors” and suggesting they should be arrested and put on trial, even hinting at the possibility of the death penalty. The White House press secretary later clarified that Trump does not intend for the members of Congress to be executed but insisted that all orders given to the military are lawful.
The Democrats in the video, including Senators Elissa Slotkin and Mark Kelly, and Representatives Chris Deluzio, Maggie Goodlander, Chrissy Houlahan, and Jason Crow, did not specify which orders they deemed illegal. However, Representative Crow referenced Trump’s alleged comments about shooting protesters in the legs and his threats to send troops to polling stations as examples of potentially unlawful actions. He also cited U.S. strikes on alleged drug trafficking boats in the Caribbean Sea as violating U.S. law.
Republicans have criticized the Democrats for not specifying which orders they consider illegal. Arizona Representative Eli Crane called it “cowardly” if they could not “name the unlawful orders.”
Several federal judges have previously ruled against Trump’s actions, finding them to be unconstitutional or unlawful. These include rulings against deploying National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon, and Washington D.C.
Human Rights Watch has also criticized U.S. maritime strikes on Venezuelan boats, calling them “extrajudicial killings.” The Democrats stand by their statement.
The controversy has sparked heated debate, with Minority Leader Chuck Schumer condemning Trump’s language as “deadly serious” and warning that it could incite violence. The Democratic lawmakers involved have issued a joint statement vowing not to be intimidated and urging Americans to condemn the President’s “calls for our murder and political violence.”
