Thu Nov 20 20:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Spurs Star Victor Wembanyama Sidelined with Calf Strain
San Antonio, TX – San Antonio Spurs fans will have to wait to see their star rookie, Victor Wembanyama, back on the court. The team announced Sunday that Wembanyama has been diagnosed with a left calf strain following an MRI.
According to reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania and Michael C. Wright, the injury is expected to keep the rising star out for 2-3 weeks. The Spurs are reportedly taking a cautious approach, mindful of recent calf injuries across the league that have turned into more serious problems.
Wembanyama sustained the injury during Friday’s game against the Golden State Warriors, where he posted 26 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks in a narrow 109-108 loss. He sat out Sunday’s victory against the Sacramento Kings.
The highly touted rookie has been a dominant force for the Spurs this season, averaging 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and a league-leading 3.58 blocks per game. His impressive play has helped propel the Spurs to an 8-4 record, their best start in a decade, including a franchise-record 5-0 start.
This setback comes after Wembanyama was limited to 46 games last season due to deep vein thrombosis, for which he underwent surgery to clear a blood clot.
While the Spurs will undoubtedly miss Wembanyama’s presence on both ends of the court, the team is hoping for a speedy and full recovery for their franchise cornerstone. Further updates on his condition will be provided in 2-3 weeks.
