A Kuki rights organization, KOHRT, has challenged a forensic report that claims audio tapes allegedly containing evidence of former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inciting ethnic conflict are tampered. KOHRT argues that the police only submitted incomplete excerpts of the audio to the forensic lab, rendering the analysis unreliable. They are urging the Supreme Court to establish a court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) to properly investigate the matter, citing their own forensic analysis that suggests the audio is authentic.

Kuki Group Challenges Forensic Report on Alleged Incriminating Audio, Demands SIT Probe

New Delhi, November 21, 2025 – The Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust (KOHRT) has filed an affidavit with the Supreme Court challenging a recent forensic report that deemed audio tapes, allegedly containing evidence of former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inciting ethnic conflict, as “modified, edited, and tampered.”

KOHRT alleges that the Manipur police submitted incomplete excerpts of the audio, totaling less than five minutes, to the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gujarat, instead of the full 48-minute recording. This, they claim, rendered the NFSU’s analysis inaccurate and unreliable.

“It was shocking to discover later that the audio clips actually transmitted were incorrect, incomplete, and did not represent the original recording,” stated KOHRT Chairman H.S. Mate in the affidavit.

The organization also submitted a forensic analysis by Truth Labs, a private forensic lab, which found no continuity errors in the audio and suggested a 93% probability that the voice was that of Mr. Singh. KOHRT argues that the Truth Labs report demonstrates greater scientific diligence.

KOHRT is now urging the Supreme Court to establish a court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly investigate the matter, ascertain the authenticity of the audio tapes, and uncover any potential criminal conspiracy behind the leak. They maintain that a full investigation is necessary, regardless of the initial forensic report’s findings.
