BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo Sabres kick off a crucial four-game homestand at KeyBank Center tonight against the Edmonton Oilers, hoping to build on the momentum from their thrilling come-from-behind overtime victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. After erasing a 4-1 deficit, the Sabres snapped a five-game winless streak and are looking to translate that desperation and resilience into a winning streak at home, where they’ve earned points in seven of their last eight games (5-1-2).
Tonight’s game will also be Native American Heritage Night, featuring the debut of a commemorative jersey designed by renowned Seneca artist G. Peter Jemison, part of a “Community Artist Series” collaboration with the AKG Buffalo Art Museum. The jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit Western Door Hockey.
The Sabres received a significant boost to their defensive lineup with the return of Rasmus Dahlin, who tallied two assists in his first game back. However, the team also suffered a loss with Michael Kesselring placed on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury. Zach Metsa has been recalled from Rochester (AHL) to add depth to the defense.
Goaltender Colten Ellis will make his third start in four games. Defenseman Mattias Samuelsson, who scored the game-winning goal against Detroit, has been a key player for the Sabres, excelling both offensively and defensively. His strong play and penalty-killing abilities will be crucial against the high-powered Oilers offense.
The Oilers, led by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, are coming off an overtime win against the Carolina Hurricanes and boast one of the league’s most potent power plays. Goaltender Stuart Skinner is on a hot streak, having won his last three starts.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on MSG (pregame coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.) and streamed on the Gotham Sports App and ESPN+ (out of market). Radio coverage will be available on WGR 550 and the Buffalo Sabres App.
