Sacramento County Opens Weather Respite Centers Ahead of Storm

Sacramento, CA – November 12, 2024 – In anticipation of significant rainfall and strong wind gusts forecast for the next few days, Sacramento County has activated two weather respite centers to provide shelter and resources for those in need.

KCRA 3’s weather team has declared Thursday an “Impact Day” due to the potential for hazardous weather conditions that could disrupt outdoor activities and travel.

The Warren E. Thornton Youth Center, located at 4000 Branch Center Road in Sacramento, will be open from 3 p.m. on November 12th until 10 a.m. on November 14th. This center will provide meals, showers, restrooms, charging stations, and cots for sleeping. Pet owners are welcome to bring one pet per person or two per couple, with the requirement that pets be crated inside the shelter and leashed outside. Dog and cat food, along with crates and leashes, will be provided.

A second respite center will be open at the Outreach and Engagement Center at 3615 Auburn Blvd., operating from 3 p.m. on November 12th until 1 p.m. on November 13th.

Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) is offering free bus and light rail rides to both respite locations. Residents can find a flyer with more details on free rides online [link not provided].

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these resources to stay safe and warm during the anticipated storm.
