MP Calls for Improved Amenities at Kattabomman Memorial

Thoothukudi, India – November 9, 2025 – Member of Parliament and MDMK principal secretary Durai Vaiko has urged the Thoothukudi district administration to construct a dining hall with potable water access and a bus stop at the Kattabomman Memorial in Kayathar. In a petition presented to District Collector K. Elambahavath on Sunday, Mr. Vaiko emphasized the site’s increasing popularity, drawing hundreds of students and members of the public daily due to its location on the Kanniyakumari – Kashmir national highway. He argued that the memorial warrants improved tourist amenities to accommodate the growing number of visitors.

Furthermore, Mr. Vaiko requested that the Collector grant regularized patta (land deed) to the land occupied by the ex-servicemen’s welfare center in Kovilpatti. He stated that the center has been operating on the land for 50 years, paying property taxes and serving as a community hub for Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations since 1987. Mr. Vaiko believes the formal land ownership would benefit the ex-servicemen and solidify their community presence.
