Prince Harry Apologizes to Canada for Dodgers Hat During World Series, Jokes About “Hat-Gate”

Toronto, Canada – Prince Harry jokingly apologized to Canada on Thursday for committing what he called “Hat-Gate,” referring to his appearance at a World Series game wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball cap while watching the team play against the Toronto Blue Jays.

During an interview with Canadian broadcaster CTV News, Harry explained that he felt compelled to wear the Dodgers hat as a matter of politeness, having been invited to the dugout by the team owner. “I was under duress,” he quipped. “There wasn’t much choice. I was doing what I thought was the polite thing to do.”

He further joked about his thinning hair, stating, “When you’re missing a lot of hair on top, and you’re sitting under floodlights, you’ll take any hat that’s available.” He then pointedly donned a Blue Jays hat.

The incident, which occurred during Game 4 of the World Series, sparked debate on social media and within Canadian media. As the son of Canada’s head of state, Harry has close ties to the country, and the Blue Jays’ strong performance captivated the nation.

Speaking in Toronto, where he was visiting with veterans ahead of Remembrance Day, Harry acknowledged the controversy. “Game 5, Game 6, Game 7, I was Blue Jays throughout. Now that I’ve admitted that, it’s going to be pretty hard for me to return back to Los Angeles,” he added. He later addressed “the blue-hatted elephant in the room” during an event honoring Canada’s military.

Despite his Californian residency with his wife Meghan, who lived in Toronto for seven years while filming “Suits,” Harry emphasized his affection for the Canadian city. “Truthfully and jokes aside, this city will always mean a great deal to me,” he said, referencing the city’s hosting of the Invictus Games in 2017 and the couple’s brief residence on Vancouver Island in 2020.
