Secunderabad Roads Gridlocked for Second Day as Elevated Corridor Construction Triggers Traffic Mayhem

Hyderabad, November 1, 2025 – Secunderabad residents are facing a second day of severe traffic congestion following road closures and diversions implemented for the construction of the Paradise-Dairy Farm Road elevated corridor on NH-44. The ensuing gridlock has spilled over onto surrounding areas, causing widespread delays and frustration.

Commuters reported significant slowdowns across Sweekar Upakaar, Tivoli, Tadbund, JBS, Diamond Point, and Picket, with interior roads like Club Road, YMCA Road, and Sikh Road becoming choked corridors. The surge in private vehicles and heavy transport utilizing these narrow, ill-equipped routes is exacerbating the situation.

“Every signal point feels like an eternity,” lamented M. Harshvardhan, an IT employee, who reported his commute time tripling even outside of peak hours.

Traffic police attribute the chaos to multiple factors, including the inadequacy of internal roads for handling the diverted traffic, uneven road surfaces, obstructions, frequent traffic signals, and a sudden increase in vehicle volume. Signal timings contribute to significant waiting times, often causing motorists to wait at consecutive signals.

The ongoing wedding season, with its related traffic to banquet halls and function venues along the diversion routes, further compounds the problem.

Commuters now face detours of 500 meters to 1.5 kilometers, with average delays of 30 minutes for even short trips. The presence of large vehicles on narrow lanes further slows down traffic.

Authorities are urging motorists to familiarize themselves with alternate routes in advance and avoid approaching closure points, particularly near Tivoli Junction.
