Deepavali Security Boost: Over 3,500 Police Deployed Across Four Tamil Nadu Districts

Vellore, October 19, 2025 – In anticipation of the Deepavali festival, police forces in Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, and Tiruvannamalai districts have initiated comprehensive security arrangements to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and visitors. Over 3,500 police personnel have been deployed across key towns, with a heightened focus on crowded areas and transportation hubs.

Acting on directives from Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Vellore, G. Dharmarajan, the security measures are designed to prevent petty crime, manage traffic flow, and safeguard against potential threats. “Intensive checks in trains and railway stations are being done to ensure the safety of passengers and to prevent illegal transport of crackers,” stated Nikil Kumar Gupta, Inspector, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Jolarpet.

The increased security presence includes law enforcement, crime units, traffic control, armed reserves, the Tamil Nadu Special Police, and Home Guards. At least 85 vehicle checkpoints have been established, particularly in border areas, to monitor vehicle movement. District police headquarters are actively monitoring CCTV camera feeds to track potential suspects and assist in locating missing persons.

Technology plays a key role in the operation. Additional CCTV cameras have been installed in crowded locations, and drone cameras are being used in Tiruvannamalai due to increased foot traffic at the Arunachaleswara temple. Police teams are utilizing facial recognition technology to identify known offenders, with real-time information sharing via WhatsApp groups.

Mobile X-ray baggage scanners are being deployed at major railway stations, and women shoppers are being advised to wear scarves to protect themselves from chain snatchers. Scarves are being distributed at shopping hubs as a precautionary measure.

Ambulances and fire and rescue service teams have been stationed in major towns to respond to any emergencies.

Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel.
