**GUNTUR, October 14, 2025:** A notorious cyber fraudster has been apprehended by police in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, accused of defrauding a local rice mill owner of nearly ₹1 crore. Choda Chaitanya Krishna Pawan, 27, a resident of Inkollu in Bapatla district, was presented to the media by Guntur Superintendent of Police (SP) Vakul Jindal on Tuesday.
According to SP Jindal, the accused contacted the victim posing as a police officer, falsely accusing him of engaging in obscene chats with women. He then demanded money to “settle” the fabricated issue. Subsequently, impersonating an Income Tax officer from a different phone number, Pawan threatened a raid on the victim’s rice mill, citing suspicious transactions, unless a bribe was paid.
Fearful of the consequences, the rice mill owner transferred nearly ₹1 crore to the bank accounts provided by the accused.
Investigations have revealed a pattern of similar crimes committed by Pawan. He was previously arrested in 2022 for cheating a Hyderabad resident of ₹1.7 lakh. Between 2024 and 2025, he is suspected of having duped multiple individuals in Hyderabad and Nizamabad out of amounts ranging from ₹17,000 to ₹20 lakh.
“The accused often initiates contact with victims impersonating a woman, later blackmailing them by calling from different numbers impersonating as a police officer,” SP Jindal explained. “He has been involved in multiple cybercrimes, and further details will be established in the ongoing investigation.”
Police are urging the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
