Tue Oct 14 03:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Brewers’ Uribe Carries Dominican Flag into NLCS, Honors Late Pitcher Ventura

**Milwaukee, WI** – Milwaukee Brewers closer Abner Uribe brought more than just his fastball to the National League Championship Series media day at American Family Field. Hours before Game 1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Dominican Republic native walked into the auditorium carrying the flag of his home country, a gesture he says honors the memory of the late Kansas City Royals pitcher, Yordano Ventura.

This comes just days after the Brewers faced criticism for posing with a Chicago Cubs “L” flag following their NL Division Series victory, a move some Cubs fans deemed disrespectful. However, Uribe’s gesture was purely one of national pride and personal remembrance.

The red and blue flag, emblazoned with a crest in the center, was carefully draped over the front of the media desk as Uribe sat alongside fellow Latin American teammates Freddy Peralta (Dominican Republic) and Jackson Chourio (Venezuela).

“When I was a kid, I really liked watching Yordano Ventura pitch,” Uribe explained through an interpreter. “It’s something I always really enjoyed, just the way he went about it, the way he would throw. I always remember him being with the flag at all times.”

Ventura, who tragically passed away in 2017, pitched for the Royals from 2013-2016, a time when Uribe was a teenager. Uribe explained that carrying the flag is a way to honor Ventura’s legacy and represent his country with pride.

“It’s a great honor,” Uribe said. “It’s of great pride…and it makes me very happy to be able to bring it up and do it myself now.”

Uribe made sure to grab his flag amidst the post-game celebrations after clinching the NLDS against the Cubs, emphasizing the importance of representing his heritage and honoring a role model. As the Brewers begin their quest for a World Series title, Uribe’s flag serves as a reminder of his roots and the legacy he hopes to create.
