Tue Oct 14 14:18:56 UTC 2025: ## Folk Singer Maithili Thakur Joins BJP Ahead of Bihar Assembly Elections

**Patna, India – October 14, 2025** – In a move expected to energize the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign, renowned folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur officially joined the party in Patna on Tuesday. The announcement comes just weeks before the Bihar Assembly elections, scheduled for November 6th and 11th, with vote counting on November 14th.

Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal welcomed Thakur to the party, fueling speculation that she will contest the election from the Alinagar constituency in Darbhanga. Jaiswal expressed strong confidence in the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) victory, claiming voters are ready to deliver a resounding mandate.

Taking aim at the opposition mahagathbandhan alliance, Jaiswal asserted that the Grand Alliance is demoralized. “More than a dozen MLAs from the RJD-Congress will join the BJP. Aage aage dekhiye hota hai kya (see what happens in the future). The Opposition is collapsing everywhere. It has a flat tyre,” he stated during a press conference.

Thakur herself expressed admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, stating, “Drawing inspiration from them, I am here to support them.”

Earlier in the day, the BJP unveiled its initial list of 71 candidates for the upcoming election. Notable candidates include Mangal Pandey for Siwan, Tarkishore Prasad for Katihar, Ramkripal Yadav for Danapur, Nitin Nabin for Bankipur, Renu Devi for Bettiah, Prem Kumar for Gaya Town, Shreyasi Singh for Jamui, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha for Lakhisarai, and Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary for Tarapur.

The BJP hopes Thakur’s popularity and widespread recognition will translate into crucial votes as they seek to retain power in the upcoming Bihar elections.
