**Djokovic Eyes Shanghai Masters Quarterfinals, Munar Awaits**
SHANGHAI – Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, is poised to make a deep run at the 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters after his side of the draw opened up. However, the Serbian icon must first navigate a challenging Round of 16 match against Spain’s Jaume Munar.
Djokovic, currently ranked No. 5 in the world, has had a successful year, reaching the semifinals of all four majors and finishing as runner-up at the Miami Open. After overcoming illness in his previous match, he is the clear favorite heading into the clash with Munar, although, the 38-year-old has only won one title this year, at the Geneva Open.
Munar, ranked outside the Top 40, is enjoying a strong hard-court season, including a semifinal appearance in Dallas and a quarterfinal showing in Winston-Salem. The 28-year-old Spaniard has a surprisingly great hard court record in 2025, with nearly 80% of service games won and over 41% break point conversion. However, analysts at BetMGM suggest Munar’s serve may be exploitable, making it tough against the experienced Djokovic.
Djokovic leads the head-to-head 1-0, with their only previous encounter being a straight-sets victory for the Serb at the 2018 Roland Garros.
BetMGM odds heavily favor Djokovic at 1/6, giving him a 69% chance of advancing. Munar is the underdog at 4/1. The winner of this match will face either Diallo or Bergs in the quarterfinals.
